Auburn Freshman Jackson Koivun Wins the 2024 Fred Haskins Award Presented by Stifel

CARLSBAD, Cal., May 28, 2024 – Auburn freshman Jackson Koivun was announced today as

the winner of the coveted 2024 Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel, recognizing the most

outstanding male NCAA Division I college golfer for the 2023-24 season. The announcement

was made today by John Shinkle, Vice President of the Fred Haskins Foundation, and Steve

Burkowski, Golf Channel Host.

Koivun, one of the top-ranked players in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and No. 3 in Clippd

rankings, received a great number of votes to win the 2024 Haskins Award. Koivun recorded two

victories, including the 2024 SEC Men’s Golf Championship Individual Title and 11 top-10

finishes in 12 events during the 2023-2024 season. He completed 25 rounds under par in a single

season. By accomplishing this, Koivun is now the third player in SEC history to capture both the

SEC Freshman of Year and SEC Golfer of the Year in the same season. He is capping off his

freshman season by helping the Auburn men’s golf team advance to match play of the NCAA

Men’s Championship.

“I’m just honored. There’s so many names on it (Haskins Award) that have gone on to do such

great things,” said Koivun when receiving the award. “I’d like to thank my coaches and my

teammates for pushing me to be my best and obviously the other nine finalists have played great

this year. It’s just an honor to secure this trophy.”

Koivun is the first Freshman in 12 years to win the Haskins Award. When asked about becoming

a Haskins Award winner as a Freshman, he said, “Coming into college as a freshman, it’s hard to

adapt and move in. I think I got off to a hot start and never really looked back. Thankfully, I was

able to play good enough that my peers could recognize me with this award.” Koivun is also the

first Auburn Tiger to put their name on the Fred Haskins Award. He mentions “There've been so

many good players that come out of Auburn, and to be the first is definitely something special. I

hope I can continue playing like this, and hopefully there’s a couple more Auburn players that

can put their name on here (Haskins Award) as well.”

“We love the award because the vote is pure.” said John Shinkle, Vice President of the Fred

Haskins Foundation and Senior Vice President of Stifel. “The winner is chosen by his peers and

coaches. We have a motto at Stifel, “Where Success Meets Success”, and if you look at the

winners of the Haskins where we’ve had 33 majors that have been won and over 400

tournaments that have been won by Haskins winners, that’s Success Meeting Success. Stifel is

very proud to continue the sponsorship of the ANNIKA Award and the Haskins Award.”

“Jackson is a great young man and we are very glad to have a player not too far from Columbus,

Georgia earn their name to the Haskins Award presented by Stifel,” said John Shinkle, Vice

President of the Fred Haskins Foundation. “There are a lot of firsts coming from Jackson, among

them, first Freshman in 12 years and first Auburn player. He is also the fifth Southeastern

Conference player on the Haskins Award. I am thrilled that he will be coming back to play

college golf next year as well.”
